Hillsdale House ~ a local restaurant about a minute from the motel; offers a more casual tavern dining experience, or a more peaceful meal in another room. Good, fresh local food – well prepared.

Hillsdale Country Diner ~ Just down the street, a favorite breakfast spot for the guests of the motel. Excellent diner specials as well, however they do not serve alcohol.

Riverview Cafe’ ~ WOW, okay… food is nice deli style; very good. But brown-bag-it and walk across the way, sit on the benches and gaze over the Hudson River. You are RIGHT ON IT.

35 minutes from the motel, worth the trip (perfect if also visiting the Martin Van Buren home); easy on the wallet, kid friendly of course. 518-758-8950.

Mt. Washington House ~ this historic structure was built in 1881 and is currently preserved by Kelly whose attention to detail is bringing the old dame back to life.

Open 7 days a wee; Sunday to Wednesday, opens at 4 p.m.; Thursday to Saturday, 11:30 a.m. Restaurant only open from Wednesday to Sunday.

The Cottage Reataurant ~ there is something comforting in an establishment that feels authentic to a period past. The Cottage is a tiny restaurant on the outskits of East Chatham; and a recommendation by Jim Leff; the “Chowhound”. The liked the prices, the authenticity and the English Muffin bread.

Taconic Waysid Inn, Restaurant & Tavern – just down the road Bash Bish Falls and Taconic State Park; the vintage little resort is from an era long past; a treasure – now a loved local eating spot.

Martin’s! Um…. some people make Martins sound like it is suppose to be perfect, FAR from it. Perfection would spoil this sweet, fresh little gem. A super nice place for breakfast or lunch.

“The best darn pot roast inteh Berkshires”. Just what you might exptect in the deep cultured woods of the Berkshires… lost in the little rivertown of Housatonic, MA. You’ll see things on the menu like Jell-O,chicken pot pie and mash potatoes. (Veggie stuff too).
